Welcome to 2016!!

Hey, and welcome to 2016 everyone. The next twelve months promise to be one of the best years for cinema fans everywhere. Jam packed with some great blockbusters and brilliant indie films, as well as sequels, spinoffs and remakes galore!!

Good news for comic book and sci-fi movie geeks (of which I am one) as there are plenty of films due for release this year including the eagerly anticipated Deadpool movie (10 February), starring Ryan Reynolds as the enigmatic Wade Wilson/Deadpool, who is joining 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe also gains a new character this year - Doctor Strange (28 October), to be portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. There’s also Captain America: Civil War (29 April), the new Suicide Squad (5 August), X-Men: Apocalypse (19 May) and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (25 March).

Away from superhero movies, there is also Star Trek Beyond (22 July), the third movie from the rebooted franchise and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (16 December), the first of several Star Wars spinoff movies to be released since Disney took the reins.

There are also a lot of sequels, spinoffs and remakes to look forward to as well including The Jungle Book (15 April), Disney’s live-action remake of the original, animated classic, as well as the new Ghostbusters movie (15 July), with an all-female cast and Finding Dory (29 July), the long awaited sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo. There are too many to list but another few films that I am excited for and I think are worth a mention include Independence Day: Resurgence (24 June), Zootopia (25 March), Alice Throughthe Looking Glass (27 May) and the new spinoff trilogy from the makers of the Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (18 November).

With so many great movies to look forward to, it’s definitely looking like it’s going to be a good year. The only problem is having the time to fit them all in, but I’m sure we’ll find a way, somehow….
