Who's Fighting For Who?
With the movie now under twelve weeks away (just!) from it's UK release date and the latest piece of promo art just released, we can can be pretty confident on who will be siding with who in the film that kicks off the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps - one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
The promo art confirms what many fans already thought. We knew that Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) was going head to head with Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) but these images now show the some of the other Avengers, new and old, that will be facing off against one another.
First, siding with Team Rogers is Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), good friend of Rogers', as well as Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and characters new to the avenging world like Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Scott Lang/Ant Man (Paul Rudd) along with his oldest friend, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Sharon Carter/Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp).
On Team Stark will be best friend of Hawkeye, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Jim Rhodes/War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Vision (Paul Bettany), as well as T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), a character new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's still unknown as to which side Peter Parker/Spiderman (Tom Holland) will choose, another character new to the MCU.
The movie is set for UK release on the 29th of April 2016.
